Four Second Fall is an organization that was formed by a coalition of ten artists, writers from Miami ad school to raise awareness about the Golden Gate Bridge being the number one suicide spot in the world. Since its completion on May 28, 1937 over 1300 people have taken their lives with a single step off this architectural masterpiece. Some believe that a “suicide barrier” will save countless lives; while others say that a barrier will ruin the beauty of one of the world’s last untouched landmarks.
Over several weeks we encouraged debate and spread word about our city’s most pressing issue. We also hosted a benefit for San Francisco’s Suicide Prevention (the nation’s oldest and most established suicide hotline) and raised several hundred dollars for them. With at least one person leaping to their death every fourteen days, it is the responsibility of the government and public to put this issue to rest. There is no easy or right answer, but we believe our organization can serve as a public platform to gauge public opinion.
